The Office of the State Fire Marshal has amended Section 904.11 of 2007 California Fire Code to clarify the application of UL 300. These regulations became effective January 1, 2008.

All new automatic fire extinguishing system used for the protection of commercial cooking operations that produce grease laden vapor shall comply with UL 300. All existing dry chemical and wet chemical fire extinguishing systems installed for the protection of commerical cooking operations that produce grease laden vapors shall comply with UL 300.

No later than the second required servicing of the system after January 1, 2008 shall the system comply with UL 300

During a hydrostatic test, a presure vessel is placed inside a close system, usually a test jacket filled with water , and a specified internal pressure causes an expansion of the container being tested and the normal and permanent expansion that the container undergoes are mesured. These volumetric expansion mesurments, in conjuction with the internal and external visual inspection of the container, are used to determine if a pressure vessel is safe for continued use, or has sufferd from a degradation in its structural integrity and must be condemned.
